What your employees should do to help rescue a colleague suspended in a fall arrest harness
When a fall occurs, call 9-1-1 immediately. One person makes the call while the other workers immediately begin rescue procedures in accordance with their fall protection plan.
Remember that the rescue must be quick to prevent the suspended worker from becoming unconscious. Maintain constant contact and encourage the worker to continue moving their legs. Ask if you experience symptoms such as fainting, dizziness, nausea, paleness, or narrowing of vision.
Depending on the height of the building, you can use ladders as long as they reach from the floor to the roof of the building.
If a person falls and becomes suspended in the harness, co-workers can move the ladder to a position that the worker can reach and reach safety. For taller buildings, a motorized elevated basket can be used to retrieve a worker. You can also attach a flexible safety ladder to the top of the building and throw it to a suspended worker, who can grab it and climb to safety.After completing the rescue follow these steps until emergency personnel arrive:Stay with your injured colleague and keep him seated with his legs in front.
Do not lie the injured worker in a horizontal position.
