A fall protection dorsal d ring is a D-shaped metal loop on a safety harness used as an attachment point for fall arrest systems like
lanyards or lifelines, with the dorsal D-ring (on the back) being the primary attachment point for general fall arrest.
 

Dorsal d ring connects to a lanyard that runs down the front of the ladder, keeping the worker upright during the ascent or descent.
